What do you hope to impart to your students?

"I truly enjoy teaching, whether it is flute lessons, or academic classes. Part of the reason I love teaching is that it gives me the opportunity be a student again - to learn more and to reconsider known information. My role as a teacher is to interpret for and relay that information to my students. This process deepens my own understanding of the flute and how it fits into the greater picture. For me, it is a cyclical process- the more I learn, the better I can communicate to my students and help them achieve their goals. I become a better teacher by growing my knowledge and discernment through exposure to new experiences, colleagues and influences which I then pass along to students."

Why do you like working with children?

"One of the great things about kids is that much of what adults consider an old fact is really something new and amazing to a child. I love the moment when you teach a student something new, and their world changes right in front of you. There are now so many possibilities because he/she knows this one new piece of information. Sharing this knowledge and watching how excited my students become when they suddenly have  insight and tools is a wonderful thing. It is one of my favorite aspects of teaching and I love when my students leave their lessons happy and enlightened."
